The Syrian opposition published footage on Tuesday ostensibly proving the Assad regime’s use of Israeli munitions, in a bid to discredit the belligerent president.

Displaying an American-made M301A3, 81mm illumination round with Hebrew writing on it, the unidentified Syrian speaker nevertheless said it was a mortar and claimed that the Ishara Battalion of the Free Syrian Army’s Islam Brigade succeeded in plundering “dozens of similar mortars” from the regime’s Shaifonia regiment, northeast of Damascus, near the city of Duma.

“This proves the regime’s collusion with the enemies and its secret deals with them,” said the speaker. “While it tells the entire world on its TV channels that it is the only upright and combative regime in the Arab world, it conducts deals under the table.”

The United States recently pledged $60 million in food and medical supplies to the Free Syrian Army, allowing Arab allies of the United States to arm certain opposition groups. Additional weapons are reportedly reaching rebel hands through the Turkish border.
