Former defense minister Yoav Gallant has been living for the past year free of charge in a private compound owned by billionaire Morris Kahn in the central Israeli town of Beit Yanai, Hebrew media reports.
Gallant and his wife were forced to leave their own villa in Amikam due to security warnings during Israel’s war with Hezbollah. Shortly after doing so, they moved into an apartment in Kahn’s compound.
Gallant lived there when he was an MK, after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired him as defense minister in 2024. Gallant resigned from the Knesset in 2025 and has remained on the Kahn compound since.
Responding to reports on his living arrangement, a spokesperson for Gallant said, “Toward the end of his tenure as defense minister, Gallant was urgently evacuated from his home in Amikam in accordance with a directive from the Shin Bet security service. The agency asked him to find alternative housing in a place without a lot of people. The state offered to bear the costs of the alternative housing. Gallant initially moved between a number of residences. As part of these moves, and after his position as defense minister came to an end in November 2024, he moved to a small housing unit, attached to the house of Morris Kahn. On January 1, 2025, Gallant resigned from the Knesset and has been living as a private citizen.”
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
