Pentagon briefers said to undercut White House claim that Iran was planning preemptive strike on US

The reported acknowledgement came a day after a senior US official briefing reporters claimed that Iran was planning to preemptively strike the US, as he went through reasons justifying the Trump administration’s decision to attack when it did.
