Police officer, 2 soldiers arrested in south on suspicion of attempted murder last month

A police officer and two IDF soldiers were arrested yesterday in southern Israel on suspicion of an attempted murder a month ago.

The three are suspected of planning a nearly-lethal ambush, says the Department of Internal Police Investigations, a State Attorney’s Office body that probes police on criminal suspicions.

One of the soldiers is a high-level reservist, bearing the rank of colonel, the agency adds. It is unclear if the second soldier is also a reservist.

The suspects were brought to a closed-door hearing in the Beersheba Magistrate’s Court today, where a gag order was imposed on the case barring the publication of the suspects’ names.

The presiding judge extended the cop’s detention by another nine days and the soldiers’ detentions by another three days as investigators continue to probe the case.
