The Military Police is reportedly probing whether the soldiers who opened fire on a Palestinian family in their car over the weekend, killing a baby, left the scene without providing medical attention.
During the incident on Friday night, a soldier opened fire at a car after reportedly perceiving it as accelerating toward the troops. Seven-month-old Sam Fahd Abou Haikal was killed, and his parents were wounded. The infant’s brother and grandmother were also in the vehicle during the incident.
On Sunday, the IDF said the Military Police’s Investigatory Unit conducted a preliminary examination of the incident and decided to launch an official investigation.
Ynet news reports that the army is examining a suspicion that the soldiers involved in the incident left the scene after the shooting without providing assistance to the family or calling for medical reinforcements.
