Trump raises number of weeks he thinks war could last from 4 to 5

US President Donald Trump raises the number of weeks that he thinks the war with Iran could take to five weeks.

Earlier today, he told a reporter that he always thought it would be four weeks, with the possibility of going shorter or longer.

Now, he tells ABC that he always thought the war could last four of five weeks, again clarifying that it could take longer or shorter.

While Trump is seen to prefer a short conflict, rather than another entrenched Mideast conflict that is unlikely to garner broad domestic support, he seems to have already moved on his stance regarding foreign intervention in recent months after campaigning aggressively against the idea a year ago.

Trump also tells ABC that the US had identified potential candidates to replace the current leadership, but they had already been killed in the first two days of Operation Epic Fury.

“The attack was so successful it knocked out most of the candidates,” Trump says. “It’s not going to be anybody that we were thinking of because they are all dead. Second or third place is dead.”

Trump also takes pride in Iran Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s death, recalling two reported assassination attempts by the Khamenei-led Islamic Republic against him when he was running for the presidency in 2024.

“I got him before he got me. They tried twice. Well, I got him first,” Trump says.

Israel is believed to be the one behind the strike that killed Khamenei on Saturday during the joint strikes with the US that launched the current conflict.
