Two sets of triplets born several hours apart in Safed hospital

Ziv Medical Center in Safed says that two sets of triplets were delivered in the hospital today, less than five hours apart.

The two mothers, both northern residents, one from Tuba-Zangariyye and the other from Kibbutz Mahanaim, each delivered a set of triplets that included two boys and one girl.

The first triplets were delivered in a scheduled procedure at 34 weeks of gestation, and the second in an emergency procedure at 26 weeks due to the onset of early labor.

The operations required complex logistical coordination involving a multi-disciplinary team of doctors, midwives, anesthesiologists, nurses, neonatal and NICU doctors and nurses, the hospital says.

“This day is a shining example of the professional and human strength of Ziv Medical Center,” says Prof. Salman Zarka, the hospital director.

“Triplet births are always exciting, but two in one day?” adds Adi Afota, midwife and deputy head of the delivery room. “That’s never happened here before.”
