IDF troops shot and killed a Palestinian man throwing stones at cars on Route 60, near the West Bank city of Ramallah on Monday night.
The incident marked the second shooting of a Palestinian on Monday, after an IDF soldier at the Allenby border crossing with Jordan shot and killed Raed Zieter, 38, a Palestinian former resident of Nablus who serves as a magistrates court judge in Amman.
In the earlier incident, which has led to a diplomatic row with Jordan, the IDF said Zieter had attacked a soldier and attempted to snatch his weapon.
In the later incident, the Palestinian who was killed was one of several men throwing stones near the settlement of Beit El.
“During an ambush operation to catch rock throwers near Beit El, an IDF force opened fire on a Palestinian who was throwing rocks at an Israeli vehicle and a bus,” the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit confirmed in a statement. “The Palestinian was killed. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.”
According to the IDF, the location, on Route 60 near the Givat Assaf outpost, is a popular spot for throwing rocks.
