A 19-year-old Palestinian man was shot Thursday while attempting to grab a weapon from a policeman after being arrested in Hebron for carrying a knife.
The suspect was arrested at the Tomb of the Patriarchs, where he was found to be carrying a knife while going through a security inspection.
While being transferred to a nearby Border Police base for questioning, he skirmished with one of the arresting officers, and attempted to steal off his weapon.
A second policeman shot the Palestinian in his leg in an attempt to neutralize him, police stated. Border Police paramedics tended to the suspect, who sustained light-to-moderate injuries, according to police.
He was transferred to a Jerusalem hospital for further treatment.

Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
