An IDF soldier claimed on Sunday that three men had tried to force him into a car in an apparent kidnapping attempt. The incident occurred in the Jordan Valley, near the Hamra Junction, while he was waiting at a bus stop.
The soldier, a resident of the Beit Jann Druze village in northern Israel, managed to escape to a nearby olive grove, and there alerted police.
The police set up roadblocks in the area in an attempt to locate the suspected culprits, and were investigating the incident.
In an annual report released in January, the Shin Bet revealed that over 30 kidnapping attempts had been thwarted in 2013 by the domestic security agency.
Of those, a significant threat to civilians was averted after the agency discovered that three Palestinian inmates held in Israel were planning to carry out a kidnapping with the assistance of the Holy Warriors Brigade, a Hamas affiliate based in the Gaza Strip. The attacks were thwarted in the preliminary planning stages, the Shin Bet said in a press release.
