Australian police ram car heading to Bondi, 7 arrested, occupants zip-tied

Australian tactical police reportedly rammed a car heading to Bondi Beach — the site of Sunday’s deadly terror attack on a Jewish event — and arrested and zip-tied the vehicle’s occupants, Australian media reports.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, a white hatchback was rammed by a vehicle carrying heavily armed police, who proceeded, with weapons drawn, to take five men out of the car. The men’s hands were then zip-tied.

Two other men in a separate vehicle were also arrested.

The outlet cited anonymous sources saying a weapon may have been in the car, and that the people who were arrested are known to authorities.

Police said there is no danger to the public, and no known connection between today’s arrest and the ongoing probe of Sunday’s shooting, which killed 15 people. One of the shooters in that attack was killed on the scene and the other is in custody and has been charged.

Bondi Beach has reopened to the public following the attack.

“Police have not identified any connection to the current police investigation of the Bondi terror attack,” a police statement says, according to the Morning Herald.

The statement said the arrests were made due to “information received that a violent act was possibly being planned.”
