Deputy Commissioner Manny Binyamin, the chief of police’s Lahav 433 major crimes unit, has once again been summoned for interrogation today, Hebrew outlets report.
He is being probed by the Department for Internal Police Investigations on suspicion of breach of trust and abuse of authority, over his alleged interference in one of the agency’s investigations motivated by a conflict of interest.
He was interrogated last week by DIPI investigators and released home, but was forbidden from entering police facilities for nine days. Now, a day before the restrictions were set to be lifted, he is called back for questioning.
A police source tells Ynet that Binyamin is nevertheless expected to return to his post, and that there will be a meeting held on the matter this afternoon with Commissioner Danny Levy.
Uri Corb, Binyamin’s lawyer, says that his client “cooperated fully from the first moment and continues to do so,” while denying allegations he interfered in a case based on a personal conflict of interest. He does not comment on Binyamin’s reported summons to DIPI’s offices for questioning today.
