Israeli police raid home in Ramallah, arrest Palestinian suspected in massive fraud scheme

A Palestinian man suspected of perpetrating a massive fraud scheme was nabbed by Israeli police in the heart of Ramallah last week, police announce today.
The suspect, a man in his 50s, is suspected of scamming around 100 Israelis out of over NIS 3 million total (close to $1 million) on the Yad2 online marketplace.
He would reach out to a vendor requesting to buy an item, then send a forged receipt of a bank transfer as a supposed proof of his purchase. A cab driver would come and collect the item from the vendor’s home, then transfer it to another taxi which would then enter the West Bank and drop it off near the Beit Aryeh settlement for the man to collect, police say.
Officers in the Yamam counter-terror unit raided the man’s Ramallah home at around 3 a.m. Wednesday and took him into custody. He will remain in custody until January 14.
