MK who skipped Knesset swearing-in says he instead went to party for local soccer team

A lawmaker who skipped the swearing-in ceremony for the 21st Knesset explains his absence from the plenum earlier today.

“I wasn’t eager to participate. I feel like a sort of foreigner to all the symbols [of state] there,” Hadash-Ta’al MK Yousef Jabareen tells the Kan public broadcaster.

Jabareen was one of three MKs to miss the ceremony, along with fellow Hadash-Ta’al MK Aida Touma-Sliman and Labor MK Shelly Yachimovich.

“I preferred to stay in the north and take part in the party for Hapoal Umm al-Fahm’s promotion to the Israeli Premier League,” Jabareen says, referring to a soccer club in the northern Arab Israeli city of Umm al-Fahm.
