Miriam Yarimi, a Jewish driver who killed a Jewish mother and her two daughters in Brooklyn earlier this year, is sentenced to 3-9 years in prison, the Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez says.
Yarimi, 33, a wigmaker with a suspended license, hit the family while speeding in the Midwood neighborhood of south Brooklyn on a Shabbat afternoon in March.
The deaths were a major tragedy for the Jewish community.
The fatalities were Natasha Saada and her daughters, Diana and Deborah.
Saada’s son was severely injured.
“This defendant is a reckless driver who cared about only herself when she raced in the streets of Brooklyn and wiped away nearly an entire family,” Gonzalez says in a statement. “She should not have been driving a car that day but, instead, she chose to callously ignore all traffic and safety laws when she caused this unspeakable carnage.”
Yarimi pleaded guilty to three counts of reckless manslaughter last month.
The Brooklyn district attorney’s office had recommended the maximum sentence of five to 15 years in prison.
