US embassy in Oman tells staff, citizens to take cover due to ‘activity outside Muscat’

The US embassy in Oman asks staff and citizens to shelter in place today, citing unspecified “activity” outside the capital Muscat, as Iran conducts a second day of retaliatory strikes across the Gulf.

“Due to ongoing activity outside of Muscat, the US Embassy in Oman has instructed staff to shelter-in-place (ie, take cover). We recommend all Americans in Oman do the same until further notice,” the embassy says in a post on X.

Oman, a key mediator in the US-Iran talks, had so far been spared Iranian attacks. It was unclear what the activity mentioned by the embassy was.
