The Movement for Quality Government watchdog organization says the Degel HaTorah faction “will meet us at the High Court,” after the ultra-Orthodox faction announced that its rabbinic leadership had given its MKs a “green light” to support the latest draft of the government’s bill regulating Haredi enlistment.
“The High Court has already unanimously ruled, in a panel of nine justices, that there is no legal basis for avoiding the enlistment of yeshiva students. Any attempt to circumvent the court ruling and approve, through legislation, the mass exemption of tens of thousands of Haredi youth — while the IDF needs more than 12,000 additional soldiers and reservists are collapsing under the burden — is a serious violation of the rule of law and equality,” the group says in a statement.
“The Movement for Quality Government will continue the legal battle in the High Court and will not allow the government to breach the court’s rulings and harm national security.”
