Podcast: Tradition! The Israeli actor who got hooked on Broadway favorites
Eyal Sherf dipped into musicals as a teen, and now acts, sings and lectures about musical theater, offering us a taste of his show
Welcome to Times Will Tell, the weekly podcast from The Times of Israel.
This week we’re speaking with Eyal Sherf, an actor, singer and cantor who specializes in everything related to Broadway, and in particular, its musicals.
The Israeli-born Sherf trained as an actor in England and New York, and has performed on its various stages, as well as back home in Israel.
Yet he also realized early on that the performance aspect was just as interesting to him as the creative process of musical theater, delving into the work that went into the shows, their histories and putting that all together into shows melding information and music.
He now performs shows around Israel that combine performance and lectures, fulfilling his own passion for musical theater.
He takes us through several of his favorites, from “The Sound of Music” and “West Side Story” to “Fidder on the Roof” and a few others, discussing their histories, creators and why they still resonate so much, to this very day.
