Education Minister Shai Piron suffered what initially was thought to be a heart attack on a flight from Poland to Israel Thursday evening and was rushed to a Petah Tikva hospital from Ben Gurion airport.
A hospital spokesperson said later that initial tests showed that Piron did not have a heart attack, and that the minister would be held overnight for observation.
Piron, who is 48, started to feel lightheaded and had chest pains during the return flight from Poland, and an emergency medical team was already waiting at the airport when his plane landed. He also received medical attention from a doctor who was on the plane.
Piron was in Poland on an official visit, along with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other government officials.
Piron was taken to Rabin Medical Center in Petah Tikva where he was reported to be in stable condition. A spokesman said the minister “feels fine,” was able to leave the plane on his own and is fully conscious.

Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
