Police on Wednesday investigated former MK Binyamin Ben-Eliezer under caution on suspicion of corruption charges.
Ben-Eliezer announced his resignation from political life earlier this month to focus on his health and clearing his name.
The former Labor Party lawmaker and ex-defense minister was summoned to the police’s Lahav 433 anti-corruption unit over his suspected financial improprieties.
Police were expected to recommend filing an indictment against Ben-Eliezer on corruption charges after an investigation reportedly found evidence pointing to his financial improprieties, according to the NRG news website.
In June, the veteran MK dropped his bid for Israel’s presidency three days before the election after police questioned him for nearly five hours, under caution, on suspicion that he illegally received millions of shekels from various sources, using some of the money to purchase a luxury apartment in Jaffa.
