Bat Yam man slays wife, commits suicide

A border policeman shot his wife dead Sunday and then, after calling his brother-in-law to tell him that he had just slain his sister, fatally turned the gun on himself, police said.

“I’ve shot your sister, come quickly, I’m going to kill myself,” the man, 40, said to his brother-in-law before apparently carrying out his threat.

The couple’s two-year-old son was in their apartment in Bat Yam at the time of the alleged murder-suicide.

Police and ambulance services were first alerted to the tragedy at around 17:45 p.m. when neighbors called to report that they heard gunfire.

Magen David Adom ambulance crews that arrived at the scene attempted to resuscitate the man and woman in the apartment, who both suffered from gunshot wounds to the upper body.

However, the woman, 30, who reportedly worked as a prison officer, was declared dead at the scene, while her husband died shortly after he was taken to hospital in critical condition.
