Daily Briefing Apr 3: Rocky 1st day of Ramadan in Jerusalem; unity at hero’s funeral

Diplomatic correspondent Lazar Berman on lessons learned 20 years post-Operation Defensive Shield, and Arab affairs correspondent Aaron Boxerman shares his favorite holiday sweets

Welcome to The Times of Israel’s Daily Briefing, your 15-minute audio update on what’s happening in Israel, the Middle East, and the Jewish world, from Sunday through Thursday.

Diplomatic correspondent Lazar Berman and Arab affairs correspondent Aaron Boxerman join host Amanda Borschel-Dan.

Last night, Jerusalem’s Old City experienced a rocky first night of Ramadan. Boxerman explains what is different this year in the police’s response.

Berman brought us two rather optimistic headlines late last week: news of a new trade deal with the United Arab Emirates and an expected visit to Israel by Turkey’s foreign minister. We discuss both.

It’s 20 years since Operation Defensive Shield and the past few weeks have pointed to a new terror wave. Were there lessons learned and what are we hearing from the top?

Late last week Boxerman covered the funeral of Amir Khoury, who neutralized the Bnei Brak terrorist and paid with his life. He brings us rare signs of Israeli unity.

Discussed articles include:
