Haifa mayor: Stay away until city recovers

Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav says the evacuation of some 60,000 residents on Thursday was the largest mass civilian mobilization in the country’s history.

He advises people to stay away from the city until it has time to recover, and also says evacuated residents should not return home, though Hebrew media reported earlier that residents of the Denya neighborhood — where Yahav himself lives — had been cleared by officials to return.

Twenty-six people are still hospitalized with light injuries and smoke inhalation, according to the radio station.
