Rahat resident accused of inciting arson attacks

The son of a senior member of the Islamic Movement in Israel has been arrested over allegations he incited nationalistic arson, the Ynet news website reports.

According to the report, the 24-year-old Rahat resident wrote on Facebook that “many wooded areas have not been touched by fires. We need to call on the disruptive among our youth to do what needs to be done.”

On Thursday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed harsh penalties for anyone setting “terror-fires” intentionally. Israel has also cracked down on social media posts considered inciting toward violence in recent years.

According to the report, another 13 people have been arrested on suspicion of setting fires.
