Sirens sound in Ashdod for 1st time amid barrage; rockets also fired at Ashkelon, Gaza border communities

Sirens are heard in the southern cities of Ashdod and Ashkelon as well as a number of communities bordering the Gaza Strip.
The heavy barrage marks the first time rockets have been fired at Ashdod in the current round of violence.
Sirens also sound in Gan Yavne and Nir Galim, which are located next to Ashdod.
The Iron Dome missile defense system is activated to intercept at least one of the projectiles.
