US President Donald Trump announces that the United States will be “hitting Iran…VERY HARD TONIGHT,” in his latest threat suggesting that efforts to finalize an agreement between the countries are not going well.

“At some point in the not too distant future, we will be taking Kharg Island, and other oil infrastructure points, and assume total control of their oil and gas markets, much like we have with Venezuela, which is working out brilliantly for both Venezuela and the United States of America,” Trump adds on Truth Social.

Given the heads-up that Trump is giving in the post, it’s not immediately clear whether the threat is yet another tactic by the US president aimed at coaxing Iran to make concessions at the negotiating table.

Trump has repeatedly threatened to unleash massive military force against Iran, only to pull back at the last minute due to purported subsequent progress in negotiations.
