With the adult Barbie and Ken experiencing emotional upheaval in Greta Gerwig’s feminist “Barbie” flick, Israeli singer Shira Zloof joined the party with her new Hebrew single, “Barbie.”
The former contestant on Israel’s version of “The Voice” adds her own take to the film, which is said to offer a heavy dose of 2023 feminism.
Zloof, a 22-year-old fan of retro Israeli music and a competitive fencer, sings about the fact that she’s more like Ken than Barbie:
I’ve never been a Barbie
I’m more like Ken
Always say what’s on my mind
I’m not the neighbor’s daughter
Zloof places herself in a pink suit jacket, closed inside a doll box in a toy store, before she breaks out, kicks off her high-heeled shoes and drives off in a pink convertible.
She sings about looking for a date and not quite knowing what to look for, both in herself and her intended.
