Dimona parents arrested on suspicion of causing death of their weeks-old baby

A mother and father were arrested on suspicion of causing the death of their weeks-old baby in the southern city of Dimona, police said Friday.
The couple’s son was brought to Beersheba’s Soroka Medical Center after suffering severe injuries, including bruises and fractures. He was pronounced dead on Friday morning.
Suspecting the baby was hurt in an “unnatural and intentional” manner, hospital staff called the police, prompting them to launch an investigation into the parents.
Officers from the desert city’s police station arrested the deceased infant’s father on Thursday, and his mother on Friday. Both were detained on suspicion of involvement in their son’s death.
The father’s remand was extended by a court, and he will undergo psychiatric testing during his detention.
The mother was still undergoing interrogation at the police station, and it was unclear whether the police would seek to extend her detention.
The infant succumbed to his wounds before dawn on Friday, police said. His body was transferred to Abu Kabir forensic institute for further examination, where experts will determine the exact cause of his death.
