A 51-year-old man was killed Thursday when a vehicle smashed into a dog park in the Haifa suburb of Kiryat Motzkin, hitting the victim as he sat in the park with his dog.

Eran Yankovich, a father of three, lost his wife to cancer three years ago. His kids are aged 21, 16 and 10.

The accident occurred when two cars collided outside the park, leading one of them to smash into the fenced-off garden, where it hit Yankovich and tipped over. The dog was unharmed.

The driver of the car that hit Yankovich, a woman aged around 50, was moderately wounded and taken to Rambam Medical Center. The driver of the second car was lightly wounded and was treated at the scene.

Paramedic Samih Abd Elkader, who treated Yankovich, said he was found unconscious and suffering from severe trauma to his entire body.

“We made resuscitation attempts but his wounds were critical and we had no choice but to declare his death.”

Dikla Hazani, sister to Yankovich’s deceased wife, told Channel 12: “It was supposed to be a routine morning walk. He loved that dog and brought it for his daughter, to help pick up their spirits after the tragedy in which we lost my sister. The dog is alright, but he is not.”
