Infant dies after being left for hours in hot car

An 8-month-old girl died after being left in a locked car in the southern Israeli city of Arad Tuesday.

With temperatures in the desert town soaring into the 90s Fahrenheit around midday, a passerby in the city’s industrial zone spotted eight-month-old Be’er Horowitz and notified emergency services.

Paramedics called to the scene removed the child from the vehicle after “a long time,” according to Hebrew media reports, but did not provide details about how the child was left there alone.

She was pronounced dead at the scene after unsuccessful attempts to resuscitate her.

“She was very hot to the touch and suffering from extreme heatstroke,” a spokesperson for the Magen David Adom rescue service said.

The child’s grandmother was suspected to have left the child in the car for several hours, according to Channel 2 news.

As in recent years, the summer of 2016 has already seen several incidents of parents forgetting their children in locked cars.

In June two young brothers died in the Negev town of Hura and in May a baby died in Ashdod after being left in a car for three hours.
