US President Joe Biden has just wrapped up separate phone calls with Qatari Emir Hamad Al-Thani and Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El Sissi to discuss ongoing efforts to deescalate regional tensions through a hostage-ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, the White House says.

Those talks appear to be at an impasse following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh last week.
