IDF says troops repelled rare large-scale attack in southern Gaza, at least 8 terror operatives killed

A cell of at least 14 terror operatives attempted to raid an IDF encampment in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis this morning, according to a military probe of the rare incident.

The attack began at around 9 a.m., as the operatives emerged from a tunnel near the IDF post and began to fire RPGs and machine guns at troops of the Kfir Brigade, and approached the encampment.

The soldiers exchanged fire, killing at least eight of the gunmen just outside the army post, while others likely managed to flee back to the tunnel, the probe finds.

The troops also dispatched a drone to strike the operatives, though it is unclear how many were killed from the air.

The IDF is continuing to scan the area for the gunmen, who the military assesses had sought to kidnap troops.

The IDF has not officially commented on the incident, including possible casualties.

The incident marks a rare case of a relatively large cell of operatives attempting to attack an IDF post. Last month, a cell of at least 12 gunmen tried to attack an IDF logistics road in Khan Younis.
