Yamina lawmakers are set to convene soon for a meeting during which, it has been widely speculated, party leader Naftali Bennett will announce he will back a government with factions seeking to replace Likud chief Benjamin Netanyahu as prime minister.
The meeting had been scheduled for 10 a.m., but was pushed back until 2 p.m. after Netanyahu suggested forming a government in which New Hope leader Gideon Sa’ar will serve as premier first, followed by the incumbent prime minister and then Bennett. Sa’ar has rejected the offer out of hand.
Rebel Yamina MK Amichai Chikli, who has come out against joining a prospective government with the “change bloc” of anti-Netanyahu parties, says he won’t be at today’s faction meeting.
“From the moment they said a change government was on the table, I unfortunately found myself in an oppositional position. I need to see how it continues from here,” he tells Army Radio.
