Road in central Israeli city caves in due to heavy rains

A road in the central city of Bnei Brak caved in on Saturday due to heavy rains.
As a result of the road’s collapse, two cars parked nearby fell into the chasm and an underground parking garage was flooded.
There were no reports of injuries.
The incident occurred on a street in the city bordering a work site for the Tel Aviv light rail. It was not immediately clear if the construction had any impact on the road’s collapse.

Emergency workers and a crew from the company building the light rail were unable to contact municipal officials for assistance, Hebrew media reported, apparently because it was the Jewish sabbath. The vast majority of the city’s population is ultra-Orthodox.
NTA, the company building the light rail, said it intended to sue Bnei Brak over the damages to the work site, the reports said, as police determined it is the municipality that is responsible for the city’s drainage system.
