A 60-year-old supermarket worker was stabbed in the central city of Shoham on Tuesday.

Paramedics took the wounded man to Tel Hashomer Hospital in Ramat Gan, where was listed in critical condition.

The assailant fled the scene after the stabbing, which occurred at Shoham’s industrial area, but was quickly apprehended by police and taken in for questioning.

Police identified the suspect as a 20-year-old Palestinian from the Shuafat neighborhood of East Jerusalem.

According to a police statement, “early indications suggest the incident was likely criminal” and not terror-related.

Police also said they were considering asking the court to extend the suspect’s remand as their investigation continues.
