A crime correspondent found himself making the news rather than reporting it after he collared a man who was breaking into his home.

Channel 2 reporter Gilad Shalmor, who covers the local Israeli crime beat, was coming out the shower when he heard the sound of someone trying to break in through the front door of his Neve Zedek home on Monday night, Shalmor’s employer reported Wednesday.

After first checking his apartment to make sure there was no one already inside, the intrepid reporter swung into action.

Clad in nothing but the towel wrapped around his waist, Shalmor threw open the front door, pounced on the hapless villain, and shackled him with a pair of plastic restraints he had kept from his army days.

“He tried to resist, but it didn’t go well for him,” Shalmor explained. “I overpowered him pretty quickly and waited for the police to arrive.”

According to the report, it wasn’t the first time Shalmor has had his work brought home to him. Three months ago someone also tried to break into his apartment while he was at home but the culprit managed to escape.
