Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey may prove to be a thorn in the side of Egyptian army chief Abdel Fattah el-Sissi, as a mock presidential campaign featuring the famed celebrity has begun spreading like wildfire on Twitter and Facebook.
While el-Sissi seems set to sweep the upcoming Egyptian elections, social media followers across the nation have taken to the Internet in an attempt to stir up the political arena by backing Spacey for president.
Over the past few days, pictures of Spacey, who stars as the conniving and ruthless politician Francis “Frank” Underwood in the highly popular Netflix program “House of Cards,” have been posted online by the hundreds and an army of Egyptian followers have “encouraged” him to announce himself a nominee.
Given Underwood’s questionable political methods on display during the hit show, el-Sissi may soon have more than the Muslim Brotherhood to worry about.
“@KevinSpacey for Egypt’s president.. He has my vote,” one enthusiastic Twitter user recently wrote.
“@KevinSpacey you were also voted The President of Egypt,” posted another.
In one of the most widely shared images of the campaign, the actor is referred to as el-Spacey, a play on the name el-Sissi.

The elections in Egypt are set to take place between May 26 and 27. El-Sissi is expected to trounce his only rival, leftist leader Hamdeen Sabbahi… if Spacey declines to run.
