IDF retracts report of drive-by shooting at troops outside Ramallah
Initial report launched manhunt for alleged shooters, but probe found no evidence of gunfire

The army retracted a report earlier Friday according to which IDF soldiers came under fire in a drive-by shooting attack outside Ramallah.
The initial report said alleged shooters drove past an army post near the central West Bank city and suddenly opened fire.
The army launched a manhunt for the perpetrators, it announced in the initial statement.
Within an hour, the army issued a new statement calling the initial statement a “false report.” No evidence of any fired bullets were found at the scene.
It was not immediately clear where the first report came from.
The IDF has been on alert in the West Bank as a hunger strike by Palestinian security prisoners has sparked occasionally violent protests and led to fears of an uptick in attacks against military personnel and civilians.
