Israeli backpacker dies in India after falling off train

Although circumstances of man’s death remain unkown, criminal activity not suspected

A 24-year-old Israeli backpacker died Wednesday in India after falling off the roof of a moving train making its way from Mumbai to Goa.

The circumstances of the man’s death were unknown.

Indian police notified the Israeli embassy in New Delhi of the incident, Israeli news site Ynet reported.

Police said the man had not been robbed and that there were no initial suspicions of foul play in his death.

The family of the deceased was notified, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said.

The department for Israelis overseas at the Foreign Ministry and the Israeli Embassy in Delhi were handling the transferal of the body to Israel.

Seventeen Israelis have died in accidents abroad over the last year.
