The mother of a woman who stripped naked at the Western Wall on Sunday afternoon and was escorted from the Jerusalem holy site by security guards, has asked that the explicit footage and photos of the incident be removed from the internet.

“We are asking for mercy, to be left alone, this was not an act of provocation,” the mother of the 23-year-old woman told Channel 2. “We are asking that the images stop being shared online,” she said, adding that her daughter was mentally ill.

Several videos of the incident uploaded to YouTube have since been removed.

Eyewitnesses said the woman stripped naked at the Western Wall Plaza on Sunday afternoon.

In video footage of the incident, the woman could be seen calmly walking toward the men’s section. A woman runs up and tries repeatedly to cover her with a shawl, but she pushes her away, then starts to run.

She makes it into the entrance of the men’s section before being roughly grabbed by the arms by two men who pull her in the direction of the public bathrooms and a police station. Bystanders can be heard yelling, “This is a modest place,” as she was apprehended.

“People started to scream and cry and when she started moving toward the men’s section she was stopped by force,” one eyewitness told Channel 2.

The Western Wall, part of the retaining walls of the Second Temple compound, is the closest point of prayer for Jews to the site of the Temple itself and thus the Jewish people’s holiest place of prayer.
