One man was killed and another wounded after a car bomb went off Thursday in Jaffa’s Ajami neighborhood, police said.

Investigators said they believed an explosive device had been planted in the vehicle by members of a criminal organization, raising suspicion that the two had been deliberately targeted.

A medical team that arrived at the scene rushed the two men, both in their twenties, to the nearby Wolfson Medical Center in Holon for emergency treatment. One of the men was pronounced dead a short while later. The man had been investigated by police in the past, Israel Radio reported.

Two additional vehicles were damaged in the explosion as well, and several passersby were treated for shock at the site.

Police were investigating whether the blast was connected to another murder that took place in Jaffa last week, the Walla news site reported.
