Police arrested seven people Wednesday on charges of paying for sex with teenage girls in an undercover bust which was an offshoot of a separate investigation against a famous Israeli singer.
During a morning raid, Tel Aviv police apprehended the suspects in their homes. Among them was a 17-year-old boy who reportedly arranged sexual encounters for others.
The suspects were charged with causing a person to commit prostitution, committing an indecent act in public, and procuring prostitution services from a minor.
Police said 25 girls aged 14-18 were paid with either cash or gifts for sexual services.
Details of the prostitution ring were brought to the attention of police during an investigation into singer Eyal Golan, who himself faced an investigation last year over allegedly having sex with underage girls.
Though Golan was cleared of all charges, one of the girls interviewed by police at the time told investigators that although she had no connection to Golan, she was involved in sexual activities for hire. Police began an undercover operation that eventually led to Wednesday’s arrests. The suspects were scheduled to be brought before Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court on Thursday for an extension of their remand.
