Police search and rescue volunteers evacuated 18 tourists and their guide, who had gotten lost in the mountains near Eilat Saturday, and returned them safely to their hotel, according to police.

The group of Austrian and German tourists had left in the morning on a guided hike to the Red Canyon, and on the way back, their guide took them on the wrong trail, according to Israel Radio.

Due to the extreme heat, the guide was forced to call police from his cellular phone after the group ran out of water.
