Two Israeli students killed in Romania car crash

Two Israeli men were killed and three others were injured early Tuesday morning in a car accident outside the Romanian capital of Bucharest, the Foreign Ministry said.
The victims, both medical students, were named as 23-year-old Mohammad al-Jabarin from Lod, and Ahmed Dahamsheh, 22, from Kfar Kana.
Jabarin and Dahamsheh were gravely injured when the car they were traveling in hit an an oncoming truck shortly after 4 a.m. at the entrance to the city. The head-on collision sent their car careening down the embankment and into the Dâmbovița River.
All five people who were in the car were hospitalized, but Jabarin and Dahamsheh succumbed to their injuries later on Tuesday.
The Foreign Ministry said both families had been informed.

Photos from the scene of the crash showed a heavily damaged overturned car being pulled out the river in the early hours of the morning.
The condition of the other three Israeli casualties was not made immediately clear by reports in Romanian media.

Romanian police opened an investigation into the crash, though local authorities told news outlets they believe the Israelis failed to yield to the oncoming vehicle.
The Foreign Ministry said it was coordinating the return of Jabarin and Dahamsheh’s bodies to Israel for burial, and was in contact with the families of the other injured passengers.
