Well-known singer arrested for domestic violence

A well-known Israeli singer was arrested overnight Saturday on suspicion of domestic violence, reports in Hebrew-language media said.

The unnamed man was arrested at the couple’s apartment in central Israel after his girlfriend called police to report that her boyfriend beat her and angrily ransacked their home during an argument they had earlier that evening.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the apartment heavily damaged, strewn with broken and damaged household items.

Officers arrested the man and the Rehovot Police opened an investigation into the incident.

According to reports, the 40-year-old singer is the son of another well-known Israeli singer who also has a history of domestic violence.

Last month, police arrested an Israeli artist on suspicion of domestic violence after his girlfriend told police he punched her in the face in downtown Tel Aviv in front of several witnesses. His name was not released for publication by police.

According to a 2016 study conducted by the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, nearly 60 percent of Israeli women have suffered physical, psychological or verbal violence from their partners.
