A 13-year-old Israeli girl, her 8-year-old brother and a Palestinian man were killed late Tuesday in a head-on collision in the northern West Bank.
The Magen David Adom rescue service said 11 people in total were injured when a Palestinian vehicle collided with a car carrying an Israeli family near the Shavei Shomron settlement on Route 557.
Paramedics pronounced the girl, later identified as Ori Lipnik, dead at the scene, while her brother Roee Lipnik was airlifted to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba, where he died several hours later.
Their mother’s condition was listed as critical. The father and their 13-year-old son are in moderate condition.
One Palestinian man was killed in the crash, and four others were wounded. A 25-year-man who was trapped in the wrecked vehicle was evacuated by IDF helicopter to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva. The other three were taken to a Palestinian hospital in Tul Karem for treatment.
Police said Wednesday that the initial investigation into the incident showed that the Palestinian driver had “lost control after he was apparently driving at a speed not appropriate for the condition of the road and collided with the other car.”
Paramedics responding to the scene described poor driving conditions.
“When we arrived, the scene was just shocking,” MDA paramedics Anat Gilgal and Tomer Fine said. “The road was completely dark, rainy and muddy and we saw two completely crushed vehicles.”
The paramedics said IDF medical personal and paramedics from the Palestinian Red Crescent also arrived at the scene and helped with the life saving efforts.
