The Knesset on Monday unanimously approved legislation allowing Israeli international TV news channel i24News to broadcast its programming locally.
The legislation submitted by Zionist Union MK Nahman Shai amends communication laws designed to regulate international media outlets in Israel.
The i24News global headquarters are located in Jaffa Port near Tel Aviv, with three separate studios that broadcast 24 hours a day in three different languages: English, French and Arabic.
The approval comes three months after i24News launched operations in the US.
CEO Frank Melloul in a statement on Monday praised the amended legislation as “a very significant milestone for the channel.”

“Like many countries around the world, Israel can also be blessed today with an international news channel that gives the world current reports on three separate channels, in three languages — English, French, and Arabic,” he said according to the i24News website.
“In light of the considerable emphasis given to events and reports from the Middle East, the channel is prominent because of the chosen content characteristics, that give it an exclusive identity that we are proud to expose to viewers in Israel,” Melloul added.
