Defense sources claim Hamas is ready for a new round of fighting with Israel, according to Channel 2.
“Hamas is prepared for an immediate round of fighting against Israel,” the sources are quoted as saying. “They learned lessons from Operation Protective Edge, and from their perspective, they are ready to fight against Israel.”
The officials report that Hamas recently managed to smuggle electronics, as well as sophisticated, water-resistant, communication devices into the Strip, in addition to scuba-diving gear and backhoes. Hamas also has infrared cameras and has set them up across the coastal enclave, they add.
“The goal of that system is to track IDF troops on the border, and of course for a warning in real time of an Israeli invasion into the Strip,” the report warns.
“They have managed to rebuild a large number of their units and are prepared for an immediate fight. They largely have nothing to lose. They want to achieve certain things they didn’t manage to do during Operation Protective Edge,” the sources go on. “The economic situation in Gaza is bad and Hamas will try to channel the residents’ rage into a war against Israel, which would seemingly improve their situation.”
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
