Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi says the cost of rebuilding Gaza after the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas could exceed $90 billion.

Turkish state media quotes him as saying he “requested an estimate [from Egyptian state institutions] for the cost of rebuilding the Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli bombing it witnessed,” during a speech marking Martyrs’ and Veterans’ Day in Egypt.

Egypt Today also quotes Sissi as saying, “Egypt is keen on keeping its Rafah border crossing open 24/7 to allow for the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip,” refuting allegations about its closure.

Rafah has been the focus of regional and international concern in recent weeks, as Israel plans military operations around Gaza’s southernmost city, where much of its population has sought safety, sharpening Egyptian fears that Palestinians could attempt to flee the offensive by attempting to rush the border.
