Speaking at the start of the weekly cabinet meeting after returning from his White House visit, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he “reached an understanding with President Trump on a framework for the release of all our hostages, and for achieving all the war objectives we set.”
He says he will provide a detailed report to the cabinet after agreeing to support the US president’s proposal for ending the war in Gaza.
Turning to the impending cabinet appointment of former IDF general David Zini as Shin Bet director, Netanyahu says he has been “very impressed with him over the years and have known him for a long time.”
“I have seen his determination, his leadership, and his ability to think outside conventional frameworks, to see things before they develop,” Netanyahu continues.
“I believe he is the right person to lead the Shin Bet—someone who knows the system, but is not part of it. I have no doubt that he will succeed greatly, and I am sure everyone supports this. His success is vital for the security of all Israeli citizens,” the premier says.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
